Story
According to legend, Befana visits children across Italy, filling their shoes with candy and treats if they’ve been good—or leaving coal, or even a stick, if they’ve misbehaved. As a house-proud visitor, she often sweeps the floor before she departs, symbolically sweeping away the hardships of the year. Families traditionally leave a bit of food and wine for her arrival.
